SYMBIOSIS

By Martynenko Yevhenii , 2023.

In 2023, Ukrainian Architect Martynenko Yevhenii designed a house in the the middle of the beautiful Carpathian Forest, west of Ukraine near Vorokhta village, Rebrovach mountain and local meadows, where a cottage of a local family was comfortably settled.

The form of the house was broken into volumetric blocks, in order to reduce the feeling of the scale of the house, also to make these forms part of the boulders, part of the stone slope.

The shape of the roof and the general shape of the house echoes the historical local architecture, as well as the shape of spruce trees. Long ago, local Carpathian houses were built with a very steep pitched roof, which encouraged intensive precipitation not to settle on the roof.

The building is divided into 2 blocks not only formally but primarily functionally. The first unit that bends is a unit with 2 master bedrooms, the bedroom of the child, which is usually above the slope, and the bedroom of the parents, which is larger, combined with the office space, goes deep into the house. Both have their own terraces. The second block is a kitchen-dining-living room block. This is a large studio space that combines different day zones. also has access to the terrace.

In the words of Martinenko; “The silhouette of the building was inspired by flowing meadow and spruces growing above. Architecture is the symbiosis of the local techniques and natural silhouettes”.

You can check Martinenko’s Behance and Professional Instagram for more details about this and upcoming projects.
